3 Healthy Morning Habits You Should Try
By Matt Scott – Certificatied Master Health and Wellness Coach
Let’s talk about your morning and why it is important to start your day off with some healthy habits. When you do something that’s good for your body as soon as you get up, you set the tone for the entire day. By embracing simple, healthy morning habits like the ones I’m about to share with you, you’re greatly improving your chances to make more healthy choices throughout the day. Not only, that, it’s also easiest to adopt healthy habits early in the day when your willpower is strong.
Drink A Glass Of Water
One of the easiest things to do is to drink a glass of water as soon as you get up. Throughout the night your body loses a lot of water through your breath and sweat. As a result, you wake up dehydrated. Instead of grabbing a steaming mug of coffee, drink a small eight-ounce glass of water first. The water gives your body the liquid it needs in a form that’s easily absorbed.
Why is it important to rehydrate first thing in the morning? Our bodies need water for almost all functions. Even mild dehydration will result in a lack of energy and a foggy mind. Remedy this as soon as you wake up, and you set yourself up for a productive day and a focused mind.
Prep Your Meals
Another great healthy morning habit is to prepare your meals for the day. The foods you eat will fuel your body and your brain. The more healthy whole foods you eat, the better your overall health. But making healthy food choices isn’t always easy.
When you’re starving and heading out to a late lunch, it’s hard to muster the willpower to order a healthy salad. If you’ve prepped your lunch in the morning, it’s easy to grab it from the fridge or cooler. Start by making yourself a healthy breakfast and then plan and prep your meals and snacks for the rest of the day.
Squeeze In A Workout
Last but not least, let’s talk about exercise. We know that we need to move around more, but heading to the gym after a long day at the office or behind the desk isn’t easy. Why not make a simple workout part of your morning routine. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated. Go for a brisk 15-minute walk or run. Do a few pushups and crunches followed by a simple stretching routine. Hit an early morning yoga class. Do something to get your body moving, and your mind will follow.
Not only do you know that you’ve gotten some exercise in no matter how the rest of your day pans out, but it also energizes you and gets you ready to start a productive workday.
